LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A woman in her 60s is in critical condition after firefighters battled a fire in the Phoenix Hill neighborhood Wednesday morning.

According to a news release from the Louisville Fire Department, it happened just after 7:30 a.m. at a home in the 900 block of Marshall Street, near South Campbell Street.

When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke coming from the one-story, single family home.

According to the news release, firefighters rescued the woman, who was the only occupant of the home. She suffered from smoke inhalation and was taken to University Hospital for treatment. She is currently listed in critical condition.

"The fire caused extensive damage throughout the home," the news release states. "It took 25 firefighters 22 minutes to bring the fire under control. No other injuries were reported."

Arson investigators are working to identify the cause of the fire, according to the news release.
