LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Kentucky Center Foundation announced Friday it purchased the Brown Theatre.

The deed of sale, filed Friday in public records, shows the Kentucky Center paid FFTA Properties, Inc.$3.2 million for the theater.  FFTA is a sister organization to the Fund for the Arts.  The building was given to the Fund for the Arts in 1997 and transferred to FFTA in 1998.

The Kentucky Center has managed the operation of the Brown Theatre since 1997,  despite not owning it.

"The acquisition of the iconic and beloved Brown Theatre enhances our growing ‘campus of venues’ across the community,” Kim Baker, president and CEO of The Kentucky Center, said in a news release. “The Kentucky Center is honored to carry on the rich tradition of this classic venue, as it has long served as a hub for performing arts in Louisville.”

The Brown Theatre showcases a wide array of shows, including the Kentucky Opera. The Kentucky Center said the current lineup of shows should remain in place.
