POLICE: DUI suspect kills bicyclist in south Louisville
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, according to officials.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A bicyclist is dead after being hit by a suspected drunk driver early Saturday morning in south Louisville.
Louisville Metro Police say Third Division officers and the Traffic Unit responded to a collision around 12:45 a.m. Saturday in the 13000 block of Dixie Highway, near Bruner Lane.
Authorities say the preliminary investigation shows a male driver of a Ford Explorer was traveling north in the slow lane, when he hit a female bicyclist who was also going north in the same lane.
She was pronounced dead at the scene, according to officials.
LMPD says the driver remained at the scene, and no one else was hurt. Police said late Saturday morning that they were awaiting a "prosecutor's recommendation" on whether charges will be filed against the driver of the Explorer.
Authorities have not released the name of the bicyclist nor the suspect.
The LMPD Traffic Unit is investigating.
