LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Showing appreciation for our nation's bravest citizens and their families. The Community Center at the Jeffersontown Veterans Memorial Park was a busy place on Sunday.

A free celebration was held to show appreciation for the families of veterans and the families of first responders.

There were arts and crafts, face painting and several other vendors.

Having a parent stationed or serving overseas can be tough on a family, so the event was about being able to have fun.

"A lot of children sacrifice just like their parents do, and this is a day to basically show appreciation to the children for the sacrifices they've made with the military," event organizer Mark Wilson said.

There was also a petting zoo, lots of music and bounce houses.
