LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Shoes and paws hit the pavement to bring attention to the importance of service animals.

The second annual Paws with Purpose Walkathon was held Sunday at Joe Creason Park.

The organization provides service dogs to disabled adults and children at no charge.

Training a dog for two years and placement can cost nearly $20,000.

Sarah Williams' son is now best friends with their dog, Jackson, who helps her son almost 24 hours a day.

"When Connor forgets things at home, around the house, Jackson helps him to remind him to complete those things like turning water faucets off, and closing refrigerator doors and things like that as well," Williams said.

Paws with Purpose also lends its services to those with Autism and veterans with PTSD.
