Regarding the recent shooting in Pleasure Ridge Park, police cornered a man after an involved chase. The man who was very intoxicated was armed with a screwdriver.
After repeated commands and being tased not once, but twice, he charged the officers saying, "Shoot me! Shoot me!"
The officers had no choice but to use lethal action, which is very concerning. There have been arguments on both sides.
It is unfortunate that this happened. But when people put themselves in that position, police had no choice.
When you don't obey police commands, by not raising your hands and having a mouthy aggressive attitude by putting hands in waistband, in pockets or behind your back, this is the cause for such measures.
Police don't get up in the morning, and put on their uniform, thinking they are going out to shoot someone today. They go to work every day with a target on their back, even in their squad cars. They have to make split-second decisions when it comes to life and death. They don't have the luxury of thinking long term.
Children are being raised without two parents. That's why we need the Ten Commandments, prayer and scripture back in our schools and public buildings.
I have never in my 70 years of life seen our country so divided. If something isn't done and done soon, our country will fall.
I'm Michael Alsman and that's my Point of View.
