LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky Kingdom opens this weekend.

The Louisville theme park kicks off the season on Sunday, April 29. The park will be open weekends in April and May. Hurricane Bay opens weekends beginning May 19, and both parks open daily starting on Memorial Day.

Kentucky Kingdom promises new rides, a new show and some upgrades for 2018 including more places to sit, more shade, more dining choices and drink stations.

New rides include the "Scream Extreme," which swings, loops and takes riders 60 feet in the air, and the "Rock 'n'  Roller," which is a Himalaya ride geared for kids.  The park also says the Thunder Run wooden roller coaster has been renovated to be a faster, smoother ride.

The "Avian Adventure" is a new show featuring free-flying Andean Condors, African Eagles, and other exotic birds.

Two new "movies you can ride" features are being added to the park's 5D Cinema including Happy Family, The Ride and Journey 2 the Mysterious Island, which stars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

Kentucky Kingdom also begins operating a new zipline at Jefferson Memorial Forest beginning June 1.

Zipline Kingdom is a three-hour experience with 39 activities including Tarzan swings, a suspended zig-zag bridge, rope ladders, a half trapeze and a net tunnel.  Admission is $70 but the first visit is free for all season pass holders.

Kentucky Kingdom season passes are now on sale for $69.95. That includes benefits like free parking, $1 soft drinks, food and merchandise discounts. General admission price for 2018 is $54.95 for adults and $39.95 for children (under 48 inches tall) and for seniors (age 55 or older).
