LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville junior cornerback Jaire Alexander has been selected with the No. 18 pick in the NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers, who traded with the Seattle Seahawks for the pick.

Alexander became the seventh-highest draft pick in University of Louisville history, matching Calvin Pryor, who went with the No. 18 pick to the New York Jets in 2014. He's one of six U of L players to be selected in the first round in the past five years.

Alexander broke onto the scene in his sophomore season with highlight-reel interceptions and returns against Florida State in a nationally televised game, and ended the season with five interceptions and nine more break-ups to earn first-team All-ACC honors.

He became Louisville's first-ever preseason All-American in his junior season, but spent much of the year injured. Still, he managed to six of seven games with one interceptions, 19 tackles and four passes broken up.

Alexander impressed scouts at the NFL combine with a 4.38 speed in the 40-yard dash, and his nose for the ball and tackling ability made him a first-round lock.
