LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- TARC is offering free shuttle service to make it easier to get to Churchill downs. 

Transit Authority of River City buses will run from Papa Johns Cardinal Stadium and the Kentucky Expo Center to the track on appointed days.

The free shuttles will run from PJCS to Churchill Downs for opening day of the spring meet, Saturday April 28.  Parking, pick-up and drop-off will be in Green Lot A. The shuttles will run from 4 p.m. - 3 a.m.

Free shuttles will run for Thurby, Oaks and Derby Day May 3-5 from the Kentucky Expo Center. 

On Thurby (May 3), guests can park for free at the KEC WITHOUT a parking pass. Parking lots will be open 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Guests should enter the KEC via gates 1, 2, 4 or 6. Shuttles will run on a continuous loop between 10:00 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Thurby. 

On Oaks (May 4) and Derby (May 5), only attendees WITH reserved parking can park at the Kentucky Exposition Center. Lots open at  7:00 a.m. Guests should enter the KEC via gates 1, 2, 4 or 6. On Oaks, shuttles will run on a continuous loop between 7:00 a.m. and 10:30 p.m. On Derby, shuttles will run between 7:00 a.m. and 11:30 p.m.

Pick-Up/Drop-Off Locations

Employee Shuttle to Churchill Downs: 

  • Stop #1 - On Rice Ave. at Adiar Ave. 
  • Stop #2 - On Emberson Dr., located in the work area of Fairgrounds.
  • Stop #3 - On Pikeview Dr., off Phillips Ln. near East Wing. 

Guest Shuttle to Churchill Downs: 

  • Stop A - On W. Hall Dr. at Broadbent Dr., stop sign at West corner of Fairgrounds.
  • Stop B - Near Lot E, backside of F and E lots.
  • Stop C - Near Lot D, past horse barns and across from ticket booths at Gate 6. 

TARC will run on schedule on all routes on Oaks and Derby Day except routes on detour because of closures near the track. Regular fares will apply. One-way adult cash fare is $1.75. 

Routes providing the closest access to Churchill Downs are:  #4 - Fourth Street; #6 - Sixth Street; and #29 - Eastern Parkway.  

Passengers are encouraged to plan their trips ahead by checking Oaks and Derby routes and schedules on TARC's website. 

Route #4 covers parts of downtown, the University of Louisville, Old Louisville, and neighborhoods near Iroquois Park. 

Route #6 provides service in downtown, Iroquois Park neighborhoods and the area near Auburndale.  

Route #29 connects Shively, U of L, the Highlands and St. Matthews.
