LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Teaching kids to live healthy from an early age. That was the goal at one of many Kentucky Derby Festival events held Sunday.

The YMCA Healthy Kids Day helped introduce young people to healthy options for exercise and eating.

It took place at the North Great Lawn at Waterfront Park, inside Kroger's Fest-a-Ville.

Some of the activities included field events, inflatables, obstacle courses, a mini fun run and healthy snacks were passed out.

Organizers say their definition of health is a broad one, not restricted to just diet and exercise.

"Awareness of our environment, building strong relationships, safety, character development and things like that," YMCA of Greater Louisville CEO Steve Tarver said.

Children also spent the day learning about water safety and neighborhood safety, as well as conflict resolution.
