LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A new student center at the University of Kentucky is now open.

The $200 million, 378,000 square-foot facility boasts rooftop gardens, fire pits and high-tech meeting rooms. There will also be an entertainment center, cafe and bookstore -- and in the new cafeteria, students will have their choice of waffles featuring UK logos and Wildcat paw prints.

Construction began in 2015, after a donation from Trustee Bill Gatton. On Tuesday, the college board will vote on whether the center should be named after Gatton.

"It's a facility that not only was designed for our community, but the spaces respond to that, the technology responds to that, the art in this facility -- so it's completely focused on improving our community, improving the belonging of our campus," said Eric Monday of UK Finance and Administration.

The previous student center was built in 1938.
