Clarksville breaks ground on new fire station expected to open early next year
The $3 million facility will be built at the intersection of Stansifer Avenue and South Sherwood Avenue.
CLARKSVILLE, Ind. (WDRB) -- The town of Clarksville, Indiana, is one step closer to opening a new firehouse.
A groundbreaking was held for Fire Station No. 1 Monday afternoon. The $3 million facility will be built at the intersection of Stansifer Avenue and South Sherwood Avenue.
It will house an up-to-date dispatch center, a decontamination room and a physical fitness center for the firefighters.
The president of the Clarksville Redevelopment Commission says he knew a lot of work was needed the first time he walked into the old building,
"I'll never forget the personal tour that I was given that included cracked ceilings, questionable support beams and very inefficient heating," said A.D. Stonecipher with the Clarksville Redevelopment Commission. "Spending one morning in this disco-era relic was enough for me -- let alone a firefighter on a 24-hour shift."
Fire Station No. 1 is expected to open in Jan. 2019.
