LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It's a Cinco de Mayo celebration on Seis de Mayo.

Since the Derby happened Saturday, the last KDF event rounded out Derby week festivities.

There was face painting, traditional dances, music and much more at Fourth Street Live! Sunday afternoon as part of the celebration.

While Cinco de Mayo is a Mexican holiday, organizers say this year the event was dedicated to Puerto Ricans.

"We're making a purposeful reach-out to welcome people that are moving here from Puerto Rico [as] newcomers because of the disaster of Hurricane Maria," event organizer Ben Ruiz said.

Ruiz said a lot of Puerto Ricans are leaving the island and moving to the mainland. Sunday's celebration was a chance to show unity among all Latinos.

There was also a moment of silence to honor the members of the Puerto Rican Air National Guard, whose plane crashed in Georgia last week.
