Ehrler's opening ice cream shop in downtown Louisville
Ehrler's Ice Cream is making a comeback in Louisville after nearly two decades.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An ice cream brand that was popular in Louisville for more than 150 years before all of its stores closed nearly two decades ago is making a comeback.
Ehrler's started serving ice cream in Louisville in 1867. Its current owners say the last Ehrler's ice cream store in Louisville closed 17 years ago. Since then, Ehrler's ice cream has only been available at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium and the Fairgrounds during special events.
Now, a new shop is scheduled to open on Main Street next to Humana.
"Everyone has an Ehrler's story -- if they grew up here -- and they come in and tell us about it. said Taylor Kersey, one of the new shop's co-owners.
"We had a man stop by the other day talking about his father used to deliver the milk for Ehrler's, so we are just excited to see people excited about it.
Ehrler's grand opening will be on Saturday, May 19.
