LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Just back from competition, Fern Creek High School celebrates a national title.

The school's Lady Leatherneck drill team snared the top spot at the National High School Drill Team Championships.

The competition in Daytona Beach, Florida draws hundreds of cadets from across the country.

The win was even more meaningful for the team's captain. Her dad is an instructor, making the win a family affair.

Captain Madeline Herbert said, "It's a lot of hard work, but it pays off in the end and it's all worth it.

Madeline's father, Frank Herbert, said, "These guys linked arms and hunkered down and decided not only to survive, but to thrive and that's an important lesson in life."

Fern Creek High School is the most decorated drill team in the U.S. with several national titles.
