LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Several people were hurt after an SUV crashed into a Denny's restaurant Tuesday night.

The crash happened about 11:30 p.m. at the restaurant on Eastern Parkway near Crittenden Drive. That's near the University of Louisville's campus.

Police say the SUV made it about ten feet inside the building, hitting several people inside. It was a chaotic scene as emergency first responders were working on the crash victims.

The driver of the SUV and nine other people inside the restaurant were rushed to area hospitals. The victims have non-life threatening injuries and are expected to recover.

Officials say some other people on the scene refused medical treatment.

Eastern Parkway and the I-65 on ramp were shut down for several hours while police investigated the crash.

Police have not said how the driver of the SUV lost control or if alcohol was a factor.

Late Wednesday afternoon, Denny's corporate office released the following statement:

"Our thoughts and prayers are with those injured as a result of the unforeseen accident that occurred at our Louisville, Kentucky location on Eastern Parkway at Crittenden Drive. We wish them all a speedy recovery. At Denny’s, the safety of our guests and team members is our top priority. Due to the damage at the restaurant, we have closed the location until it is appropriate to reopen and are cooperating with officials during their investigation."
