LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- One person is dead and another person is in the hospital after an SUV crashed into a utility pole in Shively Friday morning.
It happened around 10:45 a.m. near the intersection of Rockford Lane and Graston Avenue. According to Lt. Col. Josh Myers with Shively Police, a man in the passenger seat died at University Hospital after the crash.
The woman driving the SUV was hospitalized in critical condition.
Police say rescuers had to cut open the passenger side of the SUV to get to to the woman in the passenger's seat.
Myers says speed may have been a factor in the crash.
"It's unclear what exactly happened here," Myers said. "We do have some suspicion that speed may have been a factor. We don't know anything about type of intoxicants or anything. Obviously, blood work will come back and show us that kind of thing."
No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
Rockford Lane was closed at Graston Avenue while crews cleared the scene.
