LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) --  Some moms got their Mother's Day started with a run.

Hundreds of moms and their families were in downtown Louisville Sunday morning for the third Mother's Day 5k.

Race organizer Matt Montgomery said 800 runners took part in the race that pays a special tribute to moms.

"This is such a great venue here at the waterfront in Louisville. And beautiful weather, everybody wants to have a good time on mom's day with their moms," Montgomery said.  He added, "We're here to recognize our mothers, thank our mothers."

Every runner also got a well deserved cake pop, after the race. Flowers were also handed out to all the participants.

Organizers say moms go to keep gifts, but everyone else was encouraged to give their treats to a mom.
