CRAWFORD | Louisville gets prime-time ABC slot for season-opener vs. Alabama
The University of Louisville football team will face the defending national champion at 8 p.m. on ABC in its season-opener in Orlando.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The University of Louisville's football season-opener against defending national champion Alabama will kick off at 8 p.m. on ABC, the Atlantic Coast Conference announced on Wednesday.
The teams will meet in the Camping World Kickoff game at Camping World Stadium in Orlando.
It'll be just the fourth meeting ever between the programs, and the first since Louisville beat Alabama 34-7 in the 1991 Fiesta Bowl.
The game will mark a first for Louisville -- the first time the program has ever opened the season against the defending national champion.
The Cardinals return 15 starters from a team that went 8-5 last season. The game is expected to be the first start at quarterback for redshirt freshman Jawon Pass, who succeeds Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson, a first-round draft pick of the Baltimore Ravens.
Louisville returns leading receiver Jaylen Smith, and sacks leader Jonathan Greenard.
