LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A group of elementary students from Jefferson County Public Schools showed their appreciation for police officers Thursday morning.

Thursday morning at Carter Traditional Elementary School, kindergartners passed out brownies outside of the school to officers with the Louisville Metro Police Department.

The teacher who organized the event says she wanted to remind the students that police officers are good people who work to keep the community safe.

"We have the police right across the street from us," said Jennifer Zehnder, a physical education teacher at the school.

"We're in a great neighborhood. We're outside all day long, playing and doing academic educational projects. And I think they do a fine job at keeping all the kids and the faculty and administration safe."

This week is National Police Week.
