22 Challenge hosts 4th annual walk for veteran suicide prevention
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Marching for their lives while supporting their fellow brothers and sisters in uniform.
Saturday morning, hundreds of veterans gathered at the Jeffersonville River Stage for the 4th annual 10k RUCK Walk.
Several walkers wore backpacks with weights in them to symbolize the struggle many veterans go through. The group 22 Challenge organized the event, which helps veterans with PTSD and suicide prevention.
"We lose 22 vets a day to suicide," Ernest McCurdy said. "And we know there is a lot of help out there and resources and it is important for us to let them know we care."
Marine veteran Brian Reidinger said events like this are deeply personal, after he attempted suicide three times and didn't know where to turn for help.
"An organization, a suicide prevention team at the VA, stepped in, saved my life, got me involved, and by the grace of God I am here today," Reidinger said.
Reidinger just graduated from veteran treatment court after over two years in the program.
