LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- There are nearly 83,000 Americans who are unaccounted for, considered POW's or Missing in Action.

Saturday, the Department of Defense met with some of their families at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Louisville.

The department hosts several similar regional events throughout the year. They say its about having conversations with families whose loved ones are still missing from World War Two through the Persian Gulf War.

Memories have been passed down through the decades, but questions remain that the families want answered.

"Such that for them to be able to reconnect and know that there is a United States Government agency searching for their loved one, providing them answers and more importantly, hopefully one day, bring them home," said Kelly McKeague, with the POW/MIA Accounting Agency.

There are currently more than 1,700 missing soldiers from Indiana, and more than 1,300 from Kentucky.
