JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WDRB) -- Jeffersonville broke ground Monday on a road project designed to bring millions of dollars worth of business to the area.

The $3 million project will include road widening and improvements to Ninth Street and Indiana Avenue along with sidewalks and lighting.

The city committed to the road project so development could begin on a 10-acre site.

Mayor Mike Moore said he expects new restaurants and retail stores to break ground on the site later this year.

"Some people may not get excited about road projects," he said. "Road projects are what bring the growth to our city."

Actual construction on the road project is expected to begin in a week or two. Officials said the impact on traffic should be minimal.
