LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Katina Powell said she's the most hated woman in Louisville, and because of that, her daughter is under attack behind bars.

"I'm the most hated, but also the most loved, the most liked, the most 'wanted to be with' -- all of that," she said. "I am one person, all of that."

Powell's daughter, Lindsay, is currently an inmate at Louisville Metro Corrections because of a gun charge, and Powell said she's paying the price for her mother's notoriety.

"It's not fair," she said. "It just breaks my heart that she's the target and she has to fight every day."

In fact, Lindsay Powell has been involved in four fights in six weeks, according to jail reports, and in every incident, the inmates involved point blame at each other. The latest incident was on Tuesday.

"I got a phone call that said her jaw was broke," Katina Powell said. "I talked to her on the phone a couple days ago, and she said she chipped two teeth. She had a fight, fell and chipped her two teeth."

Katina Powell claims her daughter is not being protected. She's concerned she'll be more seriously hurt or end up with more charges, locked up even longer.

"If they don't want to get sued, then they'll stop playing with me and playing with my child, because if something happens to my child," she said, shaking her head and smirking, "you ain't worried about a book," Katina Powell said.

During the interview, Katina Powell sat in a University of Kentucky T-shirt. It's not clear if it's meant to be a jab at the team she brought down with the book, "Breaking Cardinal Rules: Basketball and the Escort Queen."

Her stories of providing strippers and escorts for basketball players and recruits cost U of L its 2013 NCAA National Championship.

Powell said she does not regret writing that book in the slightest.

"Nope," she said. "I sure don't. And I'll write another one."

Lindsay Powell was one of those escorts. She admitted to sleeping with former U of L star Russ Smith.

"My mom came and asked me, and I was like, 'OK!'" Lindsay Powell said in an ESPN "Outside the Lines" interview in 2015.

The mother-daughter duo were charged together for shoplifting at Walmart earlier this year. Then they were evicted together for the gun Lindsay Powell kept in their public housing unit. They reunited behind bars last week after Katina was charged with writing bad checks.

Katina Powell admits that, with all of this coming to light, many in the general public will have a hard time seeing her as a "victim."

"If that's how you feel, that's fine," she said. "I have no reason to lie. I didn't start it with the U of L situation. I have no reason to lie about anything, but my innocence will be proven. You'll see. You guys will be right back running these same things with Katina Powell saying, 'Yeah, she did it again.'"

Louisville Metro Corrections officials declined to make an on-camera comment, but in a written statement, they said, "There is no indication that anyone is overlooking Inmate Powell, her behavior or her health care needs."

Lindsay Powell is due for release in July.

"Ya'll sick, but if something happens to mine, it's game on," Katina Powell said.
