Scott Memorial Hospital no longer delivering babies
The new policy goes into effect at 12:00 a.m. on May 31, 2018.
SCOTTSBURG, Ind. (WDRB) -- Scott Memorial Hospital will no longer deliver babies.
In a release, the hospital said it is closing its obstetrics unit at 12:00 a.m. on May 31, 2018.
The plan is to partner with its sister facility, Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville and other area facilities. While their physicians will offer prenatal care in the Scottsburg community, expectant mothers will deliver at Clark Memorial or other facilities. However, Scott Memorial will do emergency deliveries, as needed.
The release said deliveries have declined in the past few years. Limited demand, lower reimbursement and increased operating expenses made it difficult to sustain the obstetrics program. They plan to use the change to invest more in other services for the community.
