LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The maker of one of Kentucky's best-known bourbons is adding a new spirit to its lineup.

Woodford Reserve has released Kentucky Straight Malt Whiskey. It's the fourth addition in the 22-year history of the Woodford Reserve brand.

The others include the original Woodford Reserve Bourbon, Woodford Reserve Double Oaked and Woodford Reserve Rye.

"Our newest permanent expression, Woodford Reserve Kentucky Straight Malt Whiskey, highlights Woodford Reserve's creativity, innovative spirit, and dedication to making the world's best tasting whiskeys," said Master Distiller Chris Morris in a release.

Woodford Reserve said it drew inspiration from the pre-Prohibition era. Whiskies produced in the U.S. prior to Prohibition were classified by standards including bourbon, rye, wheat and malt. Malt whiskey is usually associated with Scotland, but the distiller says Kentucky has a history with production of the spirit.

The Straight Malt Whiskey will be available in stores nationwide in June.
