LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The next time you want to throw away an antique, you might want to double check to make sure it isn't worth something.

That's what people were doing Saturday in the Portland neighborhood.

The Portland Museum held an Antique Appraisal Day. People could bring art, jewelry and family heirlooms, and for a small fee, have them checked out by nationally certified appraisers.

It was a way for people to experience some history in one of Louisville's oldest neighborhoods.

"We have a lot of people who have treasures of some sort that they have had in their families for generations, and it seemed like a great way to connect with people that way," said Judy Schroeder, with the Portland Museum.

One of the most unusual items seen was an old deed from when Portland was a town, and a sword from the Civil War.
