LEWIS | Louisville City beats MLS squad in Open Cup
LouCity's 3-2 win over the New England Revolution advances the Boys in Purple to the USOC Round of 16
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – Louisville City FC notched a 3-2 win over MLS club New England Tuesday night in the fourth round of the US Open Cup.
“Not only did we win, but we also played really well. To pull it off against a quality side like [New England] shows that we’re catching on to what [coach] James [O’Connor] says,” said LouCity midfielder Oscar Jimenez, who scored a game-tying goal after 11 minutes.
An estimated 5,000 fans packed into U of L’s Lynn Stadium to see the Boys in Purple advance to the Open Cup’s round of 16 for the first time in club history.
“I think we’re obviously representing USL and there are many USL teams making a run in the Open Cup. I think they’d be obviously delighted as well. We’re representing them and we’re very proud to represent the USL,” LCFC head coach James O’Connor said.
Louisville City will find out who is up next for them in the round of 16 on Thursday morning.
