LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Construction is underway for an extra special Habitat for Humanity home.

It's the organization's 500th home in metro Louisville. On Wednesday morning, the "Raise the Roof" celebration took place.

The 500th home is part of a multi-million dollar project on Bexelder Road in the Richmont Terrace neighborhood.

"I strongly believe the best way to transform neighborhoods is to put new homeowners in. So up and through this neighborhood, if you are familiar with what this used to look like, then the fact that we see houses popping up, I'm almost brought to tears," said Metro Council member Jessica Green.

Volunteers from UPS and Humana are working on the project.

So far, Habitat for Humanity has provided affordable housing for more than 2,000 people in Louisville.
