2 Ky. lawmakers challenge protest restrictions inside state Capitol
Attorney General Andy Beshear is being asked for an opinion on whether there should be limits on protesters.
FRANKFORT, Ky. (WDRB) -- Two Kentucky lawmakers are challenging restrictions on protests inside the state Capitol.
Representatives Attica Scott of Louisville and George Brown of Lexington sent a letter to Attorney General Andy Beshear. They want Beshear's opinion on whether it's legal for state police to limit access to the Capitol by protesters.
On Monday, people attending a Poor People's Campaign rally were told they could only enter the Capitol two at a time.
Beshear says he will wait to comment until he has all the facts.
"Because an official opinion has been requested, I don't think it's appropriate to comment on the law at this point. I would just say if it was up to me, and I was making a decision, when the people come to the Capitol, they'd be allowed in the Capitol," he said.
Beshear says attorneys from his office will soon begin work on the opinion.
