LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- There's a new place in Sheppard Park for kids to get some relief from the heat this summer.

The completion of a new sprayground was celebrated Wednesday morning.

The sprayground is a part of a number of changes to the park that includes a Conga drum play area, new restrooms and picnic tables.

Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer said the upgrades were needed. "These are new features that are going to provide Russell residents with access to a variety of new recreational and educational activities- along with no doubt what will be countless hours of entertainment and good times here in the park," he said.

The renovation of Sheppard Park is one of four "action activities" happening that aim to improve the Russell Neighborhood. Some of the other activities include adding Smart Stop bus shelters and murals to the area.

The project was funded by a federal grant, as well as Louisville Metro Government.
