LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A busy Highlands intersection closed Monday morning.

Sewer line work began at the intersection of Lexington Road and Baxter Avenue after the morning rush on June 11. The intersection is scheduled to remain closed through Aug. 7.

Drivers will still be able to access all businesses during the closure. Detours will be clearly marked. Traffic between the Highlands and downtown will be routed to Broadway and East Chestnut Street.

MSD crews are continuing to work on the Waterway Protection Tunnel under many busy Louisville streets.

The work in the area allows the capture of nine sewer overflow points that currently discharge to Beargrass Creek.

The intersection had been scheduled to close on June 4, but a cave-in on East Liberty Street delayed the closure.
