LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Saturday, several Louisville organizations donated their time and resources to help curb the violence in the city's west end.
A symposium called "Uprooting Violence: Stepping up for our community" was held at the Louisville Central Community Center in the Shawnee neighborhood.
The goal of the meeting was to show the effects of violence on the youth in the community. Experts also talked about parenting skills and the importance of mental health.
"The presenters from the symposium were from the community and the university," symposium coordinator Karen Krigger said. "And so we came together and hopefully we will have some solutions to some of the violence that we have here. It's not everything ... it's a start."
Other organizations in attendance were the Office of Safe and Healthy Neighborhoods, Louisville Urban League and the Shawnee Neighborhood Association.
