Churchill Downs crowd cheers on Justify as he becomes 13th Triple Crown winner at 150th Belmont Stakes
Crowds packed Churchill Downs Saturday night to see Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Justify run for the Triple Crown.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Crowds packed Churchill Downs Saturday night to see Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Justify run for the Triple Crown.
Justify has been training at Churchill Downs and was a local favorite for the Belmont Stakes.
Fans packed the stands to watch the race on the big screen.
Churchill Downs Spokesperson Darren Rogers said the excitement gives a boost to business and attendance.
“With Justify being based here, at Churchill Downs, for the last five weeks. There’s been considerable buzz in the area and he’s created that buzz with his performances on the racetrack,” Rogers said.
The crowd erupted when Justify became the 13th winner of the Triple Crown.
Some worry too many winners could take away from the accomplishment.
Fans like Stacy Olash see the same trainer winning two of the coveted trophies as an achievement that should not be overlooked.
"That's why you really have to feel proud of Bob Baffert for pulling this off two times because we waited and waited and you know, we're Kentuckians. We love this," Olash said.
Justify is scheduled to return to Churchill Downs on Monday.
