KENNEBUNKPORT, Maine (WDRB) - George H.W. Bush turns 94 on Tuesday.

The former president is at the family home in Kennebunkport, Maine, as he recovers from his second hospital stay since he lost his wife.

Former First Lady Barbara Bush died April 17 with her husband at her side in their home in Houston. She would have turned 93 last week.

Mister Bush tweeted a tribute to Barbara about how she liked to help others, and he thanked those who are carrying forward with her work. "She loved helping others and did so with a joyful heart. Knowing there are so many out there who share her passion puts joy in our hearts," he wrote.

The two were married for 73 years.

Chief of Staff Jean Becker says the nation's 41st president wants a low-key day and "no presents."  Several of his children are in town, including former President George W. Bush.

Another son, Neil Bush, used his dad's birthday Tuesday to call for people to volunteer and "to become a point of light."

The Central Intelligence Agency also marked the birthday by releasing declassified material related to Bush's tenure as director.

The George H.W. Bush Library also hosted a public celebration for his birthday that also paid tribute to late First Lady Barbara Bush.

Bush is the oldest living ex-president and has celebrated previous birthdays by skydiving. His last jump came when he turned 90.
