LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Dozens of families came together this Father's Day to show the importance of community.

"I care for my family and my community."

A chant, led by Metro Council President David James, before the annual 2NOT1 Father's Day cookout.

California Park was filled with food, games, families and good conversation.

Organizers say it was an afternoon for dads to spend some quality time with their loved ones in a safe environment, but the ultimate goal is minimizing violence in the community.

"It shows that you have parent involvement. That you have a lot of kids who don't have that support," Bryan McFarland said. "We're trying to show that ... trying to dispel that myth that there is not anyone out there supporting kids ... we just believe that."

Before the cookout, several fathers participated in a peace walk around the California neighborhood.
