LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- There is no better way to cool off on a hot day than with a glass of lemonade, especially when it's one of the sweetest in the country.

Charles "CJ" Ward says he has been running his lemonade stand for the last five years. He started it to raise money for a toy he wanted, but decided to give back to his community instead.

He gives his funds to those who serve and protect every day, the Shively Police Department.

The good deed caught the eye of Nextdoor.com, who named CJ as "one of the sweetest" in the country, and are matching his donations.

"I am raising money for the police department," CJ said. "Cause they are always risking their lives and I just think they deserve a reward for it."

Shively Police officers surprised him at his stand Sunday afternoon, bringing him supplies to keep his small business growing.

"To know that he didn't know we were coming, to show up and for him to just be as excited as he was, it was fantastic ... just nice to see," Shively Police Detective Patrick Allen said.

The officers hung out for a bit, grabbed some lemonade and showed CJ their patrol cars.

CJ says he raises about $1,000 each year.
