POV | Who is responsible for the illegal immigration problem?
By Bill Lamb
WDRB President and General Manager
I'm glad President Trump is now trying to keep families together when they are caught trying to enter the U.S. illegally.
Contrary to the claims of liberals, President Trump didn't create this mess. Yes, separating children from their parents was a problem, but not the problem -- it is a symptom of the problem.
Foreigners making daily decisions to rush our borders, trying to gain illegal access for themselves and their families, are the problem.
Other presidents have kicked this problem down the road. Trump is not doing that.
Nobody likes the word "accountability," so nobody wants to put any responsibility for this mess on the illegal border crashers. Trump is an easier target. But if you try to sneak your family into our country illegally -- or any county, for that matter -- aren't you responsible for what happens next? Just a little bit, maybe? I think you are.
If you're not a U.S. resident, you want to live in this great country, and you want to stay with your children, don't try to sneak into the United States illegally. Wait your turn, go through the proper channels, and I am confident you will be welcomed.
Illegal border crashing is an unfortunate situation, but no other administration has fixed it. Maybe President Trump's tough stance will finally send a message that it will be better for people and their families if they enter our country legally.
I'm Bill Lamb, and that's my Point of View.
