LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Churchill Downs is donating $100,000 to the Kentucky Derby Museum's expansion project.

The Derby Museum broke ground on the $6.5 million expansion in March 2018.

It's the museum's largest expansion since it was built in 1985. It includes adding 11,000 square feet of new space and renovating 5,000 square feet of existing space.

Renderings show the future look of the Kentucky Derby Museum.

Officials say the expansion should be complete by late October 2018 -- just in time for the Breeders' Cup.

The museum will remain open during the expansion. A public grand opening has been scheduled for Nov. 1, 2018.
