LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Some kids in Louisville's west end got an assist in the game of life today.

Local sports legends held their annual Sports and Motivation Youth Camp on Saturday.

Dozens of kids ages six to 13 gathered in Chickasaw Park to get a few pointers.

Members of the Louisville Bats as well as former UK standout Wilbur Hackett Sr. were on hand to teach the group proper basketball, football and boxing techniques.

But more than sports, organizers say the day was about preparing the kids for life.

"Letting them know that when you fall, you know how to get up," event organizer Barry Tilford said. "And these will come from people who have made their way to be successful but had a valley of nothing but failure sometimes, or sometimes worked to, it's not easy. And let them know you simply don't see success, it just pops up, you've got to yearn for it, you've got to pray for it."

Parents who brought their kids also got a $10 gift card.

This was the second year for the free event.
