LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police say a crash on the Interstate 64 eastbound ramp to Interstate 65 northbound that happened Monday morning was fatal.

An LMPD spokesperson says 1st Division officers were dispatched to a single-vehicle crash around 8:10 a.m.

Police say initial investigation shows the vehicle was traveling on Interstate 64 eastbound and "left the roadway at the split." The vehicle then crossed the ramp to Interstate 65 north from Interstate 64 east and hit a wall before coming to a final stop in the grass.

According to police, a male patient was taken to University Hospital where he died from his injuries. Police say a medical condition was a contributing factor in the crash.

MetroSafe says the ramp is closed, as reconstruction crews work the scene. There's no additional information on the victim or other injuries in the crash.

According to authorities, the interstate could be closed until around 11:30 a.m.
