LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It's a professional home run for WDRB Sports Director Tom Lane.

He's currently in North Carolina, where he is being honored as Kentucky's Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sports Media Association. One broadcast journalist from each state receives the award, and the winner is chosen by other sportscasters across Kentucky.

Tom shared some thoughts with the NSMA after learning he would receive the honor. He says he quit his job in the insurance industry to pursue his career in sports media.

He shared a piece of advice for aspiring sports journalists when he spoke to the NSMA, "Be adaptable, be versatile, be persistent…don’t get into it because you think it’s glamorous."

Born in Pittsburgh and raised in upstate New York, Tom has been with WDRB since 1990. Tom is a proud family man (he's a husband and father of three).

In addition to his sports reporting duties, he also coaches several youth sports.
