LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man was arrested early Monday morning after police say he fired a gun at several people inside a Shively apartment, shooting a woman in the back.

According to an arrest report, the incident took place just before 1 a.m. Monday at an apartment in the 1800 block of Neville Drive, near the interchange between I-264 and Highway 31 West.

Police say  five people were inside the apartment with the suspect, 34-year-old Brandon Carson. Witnesses later said that Carson smoked marijuana, used cocaine and drank alcohol, before he grabbed woman's gun and told everyone not to move. The witness said he then, "started shooting at everyone."

Investigators say shots went through the walls of the apartment. One woman in the apartment with Carson was shot in the back. A spokesman for the Shively Police Department says she is expected to recover.

When police arrived, Carson allegedly fired a shot at them. The shot missed the right side of an officer's face, but shattered a window, causing broken glass to inflict cuts on the officer's face.

Carson was eventually taken into custody and charged with first-degree assault, third-degree assault of an officer and five counts of first-degree wanton endangerment. He is currently being held in Louisville Metro Corrections.
