LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- WDRB News received nine first place awards from the Louisville chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. The awards ceremony, held in downtown Louisville Thursday night, honored the best journalism in our area in several platforms: broadcast, digital, radio, newspaper and magazine coverage.

The most prestigious broadcast award of the night, Best Newscast, went to WDRB News @ 11:30. WDRB also won in the Spot News and Team Coverage categories for coverage of scandals and shakeups at the University of Louisville. WDRB Sports won big with Rick Bozich taking top honors as Best Sports Columnist, and the University of Louisville vs. Purdue football pregame show won Best Sports Special. 

The creativity of WDRB photojournalists led to several photography awards. Doug Smith took home Best General Photography and Best Feature Photography. Dominik Fuhrmann won Best Spot News Photography. Fuhrmann and reporter Gilbert Corsey received top honors in the Hard News Feature category with their story Wrestling With Life. WDRB was also recognized with several second and third place awards.
