27-year-old female inmate at Louisville Metro Corrections dies
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An inmate at Louisville Metro Corrections was pronounced dead hours after she was found, unconscious and unresponsive, in her cell Thursday morning.
According to a news release from the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections, the 27-year-old woman -- who was not identified in the release -- was found at approximately 7:30 a.m. on June 29. Medical staff at the jail "immediately" began providing CPR, according to the release, and she was taken via ambulance to University Hospital.
She was pronounced dead at 11:45 a.m. at the hospital. Her cause of death has not yet been released.
Authorities say the woman was booked in Louisville Metro Corrections on March 30 on a bench warrant for felony theft and burglary charges, as well as warrants from other jurisdictions.
The Metro Corrections Professional Standards Unit and the Louisville Metro Police Public Integrity Unit are both investigating -- a "standard procedure," according to the news release.
