With the announced retirement of Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy, President Trump will have an opportunity to shape the court for generations to come, and the Democrats are obviously not happy. I can't blame them.

As you recall, when conservative Justice Antonin Scalia passed away two years ago, President Obama nominated Merrick Garland, to the Supreme Court, but Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell used his unmatched knowledge of the workings of the Senate to block Merrick from even get a confirmation hearing. He decided no one would be confirmed until after the presidential election. It was infuriating for the Democrats, and they screamed how unfair it was, but like it or not, it was a brilliant political move by McConnell that paid off for conservatives.

Those same Democrats, who protested the unfairness of holding up the confirmation hearings until after the election, now want to hold up the new nominee's hearing until, you guessed it, after the midterm election. The problem for them is that they don't have the leverage McConnell has. This is bare-knuckle politics and nobody in today's Washington is a match for Senator McConnell.

Democrats are already protesting any nominee President Trump may bring forward, even though he hasn't even submitted a name yet, but Trump will get his nominee confirmed before Halloween. Mitch McConnell will see to it.

I'm Bill Lamb, and that's my Point of View.
