LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A 3-year-old boy is dead after rescuers pulled him from a car Friday evening, and now the Frankfort Police Department is investigating.

According to Franklin County Coroner Will Harrod, the incident took place sometime before 9:50 p.m. on Friday.

“I can tell you that the child was discovered in a vehicle in the eastern part of Frankfort, transported to the hospital – of course pronounced by us,” he said.

Harrod said 3-year-old Calvin Hedges was discovered alone in the vehicle, which was located in a residential area. He was pronounced dead at 9:50 p.m. at the Frankfort Regional Medical Center. Harrod said an autopsy was performed on Saturday, but the results are not available at this time. An official cause of death has not yet been released.

Harrod said Friday was a particularly hot day.

“I don’t recall the exact temperature, but I do know it was hot on Friday," he said.

Presently, Harrod said the Frankfort Police Department and the Franklin County Coroner's Office are investigating the incident. No charges have been filed at this time.
