LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A woman in central Kentucky, was arrested Wednesday after police say her 3-year-old grandson was found underwater in a neighbor's swimming pool.

According to an arrest report, the incident took place shortly after 4 p.m. on the Fourth of July in the 200 block of Hamilton Avenue, in Lancaster, Kentucky, in Gerrard County.

Police say 50-year-old Glenda Crowe didn't realize that her 4-year-old and 3-year-old grandsons had wandered away from her home. A short time later, a woman passing by saw the 4-year-old boy outside. The boy told the woman that his 3-year-old brother had fallen into a nearby pool.

When the woman found the boy, he was in the bottom of the pool, which was about four feet deep. Police say she told them his mouth was open, he was struggling and he was unable to reach the surface.

The woman quickly pulled the boy from the water and resuscitated him.  She told police the boy was choking up water.

When police confronted Crowe, she said she did not notice the children were missing and had no idea where they were. When police told her the child should be taken to the hospital to be checked out, she refused. She also would not allow him to be transported to the hospital.

At that point, police and Social Services took custody of the boy and determined that the child should be taken to the hospital. He has since been treated and released into the custody of another relative.

Crowe was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a minor, first-degree wanton endangerment and responsibility for the abuse or neglect of a child. She is currently being held in the Lincoln County Detention Center.
