LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Summer camp is helping students across Louisville get a good start to their school careers.

Camp Ready4K, JCPS' kindergarten readiness camp started Monday.

Incoming kindergarten students get instruction from early learning teachers, making sure the children know their letters and colors as well as other skills.

"(Students) also (learn) how to cut with scissors, for example, (and) how to be a good listener (and) follow directions. Those sorts of things are just as important in being successful for school, " said Mary Beth Stevens, from the Dawson Orman Education Center.

Parents had to complete applications for the camp in March.

Camp Ready4K lasts through July 27 at seven locations across Louisville.

Breakfast, lunch and transportation are provided for campers.
