Dean Foods will close its Louisville milk processing plant in September, laying off 76 people, according to a notice filed July 5 with the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training.

The plant is at 4420 Bishop Lane in the Newburg area.

The decision is reportedly linked to Walmart’s move to build its own milk production plant in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

The loss of business with Dean Foods has forced dozens of Kentucky dairy farmers to sell their operations or scramble to find other customers, according to NBC News.

Dean Foods did not elaborate on its reasons for closing the facility in the letter to state officials.
